Founded in 1897 and part of the Heineken Group since 2002, Al Ahram Beverages Company (ABC) is Egypt’s largest and most iconic beverage producer. With more than 120 years of brewing heritage, ABC operates 5 world-class ISO-certified facilities across Egypt and exports to international markets.

📖 Our History

• 1897 – Crown Brewery Company established in Alexandria.
• 1946 – Technical partnership with Dutch brewer Heineken.
• 1963 – Nationalized, renamed Al Ahram Beverages Company.
• 1997 – Privatized during economic reforms.
• 2002 – Acquired by Heineken Group with ~$280M investment.
• 2006 – Fully integrated into Heineken, modernized operations.

🏭 Facilities & Production

ABC operates five world-class production facilities across Egypt:

• El Obour & El Gouna – Advanced breweries for local & export markets.
• Sharkia – Produces non-alcoholic beverages for local and Arab/African/Asian exports.
• Gianaclis – Largest winery & distillery in the region.
• 6th of October Malt Plant – One of the few Heineken malteries worldwide.

Around 50% of production is directed to Egypt’s tourism sector. ABC employs more than 2,600 ABCians across all sites.

💰 Economic Contribution & Local Sourcing

• Pays ~EGP 1bn annually in taxes.
• Invested EGP 1bn+ in new lines and facilities since 2016.
• Plans to increase investments by 40% in the next 5 years.
• 90% of spending with local suppliers (EGP 2bn annually).
• 10,000 acres of grapes under contract farming, 100% locally sourced barley.

🌱 Sustainability & Responsibility

• Water: MoUs worth EGP 4m+ to protect water in Beheira & Siwa Oasis.
• Climate: Active CO₂ reduction across the value chain.
• Responsible Consumption: Campaigns with Uber Egypt – “When You Drink, Never Drive.”
• Community Engagement: Over EGP 40m invested in CSR since 2009 (Ramadan charity, Orphans Day, school donations).
• Tourism: Investments supporting hospitality, training hotel staff, and promoting Egypt abroad.

📢 Community Awareness Campaigns

ABC and Fayrouz launched the “From Grain to Gain” campaign in 2014 to highlight the health and nutritional benefits of malt, endorsed by Dr. Sherif Azmy (Nutritionist, Nasser Institute). Media outreach included nutrition articles, agricultural insights, and barley-based recipes.
